Preserving The Harvest

ABOUT US

My family has been farming since 1989, leaving the city for the country.  Scott & I were married in 1999, and began our own journey to sustain ourselves and wee family in 2001, later starting our own farm business. We live on our farm in Woodland, WA, and tho we've been on a few-year hiatus, we are ramping back up - with new additions from our entrepreneur children - several now adults!

Our 30+ acre farm is situated in the Lewis River Valley of Woodland, WA, and is the homestead hub of the greater, well-known (now divvied up) Christensen Farm, which was founded nearly a century ago.  We are honored and thrilled to have been able to purchase this lovely place in 2019, as we’d driven by it for decades before when we farmed up and over the same road.  We use regenerative farming practices to create a thriving, biodiverse farmstead, honoring the Creator’s artwork, the lands heritage, and our roots in agriculture.  You can find more history about this farmstead here.

Our family farm has been providing wholesome farm foods directly to local customers since 2006, when we began implementing our farm into our family’s livelihood.  We’ve raised pastured pork, chickens and geese for meat and eggs, pastured turkey for Thanksgiving dinners, sheep for milk/meat/fiber and more… We “think outside the box,” often creating innovative ways to practice old-time methods of community.  We have learned that diversity is key in preserving our land, each aspect working to compliment another to create a well-rounded and healthy farm.  We have since simplified and point folk to where they can procure many of these items.  We love sharing our knowledge!

We host various classes & food-sharing events throughout the year. You can get first dibs by participating on our e-list (request to be added here). Some of our events have included: rain barrel building, cheese making, tea making & etiquette, soap making, farm dinners, herbal medicine, fermenting and preserving, butchering an animal, etc. We also share other, unaffiliated events via our e-list that we think may be of interest to like-minded folks.

A big part of our lives is based on the village principle.  We do not buy into the lies that we are meant to live alone, but to give and share and grow as a close-knit community.  This belief has shaped a lot of our cooperative mentality, which has sustained our farm and family through thick and thin throughout the years.

We have six (seven!) children earth-side, born as early as 2001 and as late as 2018.  We’d love to have a hundred.  Our oldest has his private pilot’s license and is pursuing a career in aviation. Next is our only daughter, an artist, wife of our now-son Nathan - and a mother!  Our next boy, now a teenager, is proficient in mechanics and enjoys hard work, guitar and acting.  He’s a bit of a “middle child” as the last three boys are closer together in age.  They are a joy, the reason we chose to farm, and are the best investment and greatest reward we’ve “grown” yet.

With homesteading and village-ing come a slew of other interests beyond growing and picking food and mucking around in the outback.  We’re passionate about growing people, and harvesting hearts.  You’ll find a fair amount of religious tone as you step into our lives through this story.  Without the Maker, we simply wouldn’t be.  All glory to Him.
